In a press release today, Rwanda announced that the border crossing at Gatuna (Rwanda) and Katuna (Uganda) is planned to reopen from the 31st of January 2022. Incidentally, this is the land border that is primarily for commercial goods and is closest to Akagera NP, it is not the border crossing used for accessing Kigali and Volcanoes NP (Cyanika/Kyanika). As for the other land borders, the release states that health authorities of both counties will “work together to put in place necessary measures to facilitate movement in the context of Covid-19.”
Classic Africa Safaris will keep you informed on developments and if/when this affects two-country itineraries and transits. We do not currently have any health/testing requirement details as they apply to this border reopening.
